At Mangaroa School we use HERO. It is through here that we carry out our main reporting to our whanau and community. Below is how we report back in more detail.
HERO Goals
Teachers will regularly reflect on student goals set within HERO and update them as they have been achieved. Teachers will then set new goals with input from the student and their whānau where possible. This helps to also inform OTJs. By regularly updating and referring to our goals, students and families can be clear on what a student is working on or is able to do. Goals are the foundation of our regular, real-time reporting.
Teachers ensure that they have enough evidence both through assessment and observations of learning in class before they tick a goal as ‘secure.’
School-wide Reporting Timeline

Comments are based around Key Competencies and student Dispositions
Additional learning posts may be posted throughout the year also to showcase learning and our G.R.O.W values across different areas of the curriculum.
Learning Conversations
Twice-yearly Mangaroa School holds Learning Conversations. This is an opportunity for parents to make an appointment to discuss their child’s learning with their teacher. Appointments are booked on HERO.
Term 1: 10-minute time slots with a focus on how the student has settled, any recent achievement information, intentions for the year and anything else the parent wants to raise or share.
Term 3: 10-minute time slots with a focus on HERO report comments from the beginning of the year, recent HERO goals and an update on student progress.
